Ingredients
Method
- Spread the softened butter evenly over one side of each bread slice, all the way to the edges.
- Place one bread slice, butter-side down, in a cold nonstick skillet.
- Layer the cheese evenly over the bread in the skillet.
- Top with the second bread slice, butter-side facing up.
- Set the skillet over medium-low heat and cook for 3-4 minutes, until the bottom is deep golden brown.
- Carefully flip the sandwich with a spatula.
- Cook the second side for another 3-4 minutes, until golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
- Remove from the skillet, let rest for 1 minute, then slice in half and serve warm.
Notes
For extra-crisp edges, spread butter (or mayonnaise) all the way to the corners of the bread. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3-4 days and reheat in a skillet over medium-low heat, per USDA food safety guidance.
